No, it’s not this!
Natural style is akin to organic style, eco-friendly style, non-toxic style, sustainable style and green style are all synonymous. They all mean basically the same thing. And the term I like to use, because it just seems to fit the best is conscientious style.
What does it mean to have natural style?
Do I have to give up my unique, coolness?
That’s a resounding no. Style is personal. It is how one person expresses themselves aesthetically. You can have any style you want, just with a conscientiousness toward using natural and non-toxic materials. It is all about be aware of the materials and sources of all of the elements in our life, whether it be clothing, home goods, furniture, food, products, so as to reduce risk of the effects of harmful chemicals.
It’s about not being synthetic, made of chemicals, but of more natural sources. Hence, natural style.
Natural style is not fake, which is the epitome of the fundamental rule of style. Authentic.
These are all natural style:
Is it hard to find cool stuff that is also organic, non-toxic, eco-friendly, green, natural?
No. There are more conscientious products everyday, because people are learning more and more about how to live healthily. You just need to think with a healthful mindset about everything in your environment, and then your skills for identifying them will also improve and it will be easier.
And I intend on highlighting all the great ideas and finds in this section, so keep a look out for new ones here!
Know what to look for at the store you already go to. For example: Amazon, Walmart, and Target
Is it expensive?
– No, not if you start to buy with purpose, and cut out the frivolous junk spending that we are all guilty of.
– And no, not if we are buying quality things that will stay with us. Remember the day when people bought really nice solid wood furniture and kept it their whole lives and passed it down to their kids and grandkids? It is the same thing.
– And no, when we our dollars are going toward products that are good for us and our health. You can’t put a price on that.
Is it hard to find cool organic products?
There are great retailers that sell custom, artistic products and materials, that are committed to natural and conscientious living, and that is all they do! These companies are great because they are serious about making sure they offer the best quality goods, products and services.
And there are many, many companies that give you options for choosing what is best for your life, so they offer green, organic, sustainable, eco-friendly options.
One of the best sites for this is Spoonflower, which is a site where you can get custom designs printed on fabric, wallpaper and gift wrap, or even home linens! And they have a great selection of organic materials to choose as your substrate. It is amazing. You will never have to worry about seeing something cool but not get it because of questionable materials. Just have it made instead? And the sky is the limit with the choices of designs to choose from, because not only are there thousands, but you can upload your own design!
The other best site or sites is Etsy and Etsy Studio. Etsy is known for unique and handcrafted products for every aspect of your life, and the variety is endless. And many, many sellers are just like you and care about living conscientiously.
What you can’t find, make!
Everyone knows that true style is represented by its innovation, how you can combine things for your own unique point of view. And if your style is such a phenomenon, then you will probably want to do it DIY anyway! After all, a retailer didn’t invent ripped, or acid-washed jeans: teenagers did. So take a page back from your creative side, and give your own take on what organic goods are out there. Or buy organic fabric, and do it yourself from scratch.
In a way, we are learning skills that have been lost, just in a couple generations. But like everything else lost, we can take that back too.
